About

Currently, I'm the Web Communications Leader for the Department of Horticulture/School of Integrated Plant, Soil, and Insect Science at Oregon State University.

I'm in charge of leading the web restructure of the Departments of Horticulture and Crop & Soil Sciences - these two departments are being folded into a new School of Integrated Plant, Soil, and Insect Science. The new School site will allow audiences to engage with OSU and learn more about research, teaching and extension in these areas.

My most recent position before Oregon State was as Site Manager/Online Editor for MustHaveMenus.com, an online company based in Ashland, Oregon.

MustHaveMenus

My role at MHM was twofold: I assisted in the day-to-day management of the site, such as steering menu production and direction, research into trends and popular menu styles, and general site upkeep and maintenance. I was also the Online Editor, so I focueds on writing engaging, helpful content for the site; content that also drives traffic through excellent SEO optimization.

Freelance

I am also a part-time freelance writer. Visit my Samples for more information on my freelance projects.

I'm a graduate of the Master of Arts in Professional Writing program at Carnegie Mellon University. Through the MAPW program, I learned how to synthesize technical information, shape texts, and design effective media for target audiences. Instruction in the program focuses on research skills, plain language writing and document implementation from planning to print. The most important thing I learned in the MAPW program was to consider your audience, first and foremost, before ever putting pen to page (or cursor to screen).
